Waiter Devices

Team → Waiter devices lists the tablets set up for the SSP Waiter app at your location. Staff sign in on these tablets with their PIN. When a tablet is lost, stolen or replaced, revoke it here and PIN sign-in on it stops straight away.

Who can use this page

Organization admins, chain managers, location managers and floor managers. Cashiers, wait staff and kitchen staff don't see it in the sidebar, and opening it directly shows Unauthorized.

How a Tablet Gets Set Up

There's no "add device" button. A tablet is set up the first time someone signs in on it in the Waiter app with a full account (their email and password, or Google or Apple), using Sign in with SSP. From then on:

  • The tablet shows a Tablet locked screen with your staff's names: Tap your name and enter your PIN to start.
  • Staff tap their name, enter their PIN on the keypad and press Login.
  • PIN sign-in on that tablet works for your organization only.

The tablet then appears on the Waiter devices page. Staff get their PIN by email; see Resetting a PIN if someone forgets theirs.

Revoked tablets are hidden by default. Turn on Show revoked to see them. If no tablet has been set up yet, the page shows No devices set up.

Revoking a Tablet

  1. Find the tablet in the list
  2. Click Revoke
  3. Read the confirmation: No one will be able to sign in by PIN on this tablet any more, and whoever is signed in on it is signed out, including the account that set it up. To use it again, sign in on it with a full account.
  4. Click Revoke device (or Keep it to cancel)

The status changes to Revoked with today's date.

What the tablet shows

The next time the tablet is used, it shows:

This tablet was removed

A manager removed it in SSP Manager (Team > Waiter devices). Sign out, then sign in again with a full account to set it up.

The message stays after a reload. To use the tablet again, sign out on it and sign in with a full account. It's set up as a new device and appears in the list as a new row; the revoked row stays as a record.

When to revoke
  • A tablet is lost or stolen
  • You're replacing or retiring a tablet
  • A tablet was set up with the wrong account
