Signing in and shared tablets

SSP Waiter has no login form of its own. The tablet is signed in once with a full SSP account, and after that the team takes turns on it with their PIN.

Open SSP Waiter

Either:

  • open waiter.ssppos.com in the tablet's browser, or
  • in SSP Manager, open the SSP Apps menu (the grid icon in the top bar; on a phone it's in the menu drawer, next to the logo) and choose SSP Waiter. It opens in a new tab, straight on the Tables screen of the location you were looking at.

Sign in with SSP

  1. If nobody is signed in you see Welcome back and one button: Sign in with SSP. Tap it.
  2. SSP Manager's sign-in page opens. Sign in with your SSP account (email and password, or Google / Apple if your account uses them). If you're already signed in to SSP Manager in this browser, this step is skipped.
  3. You come straight back to SSP Waiter.

If your account works at one location, the Tables screen opens. If it works at several, the Select a Location screen lists them; tap the one you're working at.

The person who signs in works as themselves straight away: there's no PIN to enter after a full sign-in.

The first sign-in sets the tablet up

The first full sign-in on a tablet sets it up for your restaurant. From then on, the team can sign in on it with their PIN, and the tablet appears in SSP Manager under Team → Waiter devices, with who set it up and when it was last used.

PIN sign-in works only on a tablet that has been set up for your restaurant. To add a tablet, sign in on it once with a full account; there's nothing to configure in SSP Manager first.

Who should sign the tablet in

Sign shared tablets in with a manager's account at the start of service. The tablet stays signed in until someone signs it out, and everyone else works on it with their own PIN.

The lock screen

When the tablet is locked it shows Tablet locked — Tap your name and enter your PIN to start. — and a list of the staff at this location.

The tablet locks when:

  • someone taps Lock in the top bar,
  • nobody has touched it for two minutes,
  • the page is reloaded while someone is working on it with their PIN.

Once the tablet is locked, everyone signs in with their PIN, including the person who signed the tablet in. The lock holds in every tab of the tablet's browser, and still holds if the browser is closed and reopened.

Sign in with your PIN

  1. Tap your name. The Enter PIN Code pad opens.
  2. Enter your PIN on the keypad (or type it). Clear empties the field and Undo removes the last digit.
  3. Tap Login, or press Enter.

You see Welcome your name and the app opens as you: orders you take carry your name, and you can do what your role allows.

If the PIN is wrong the pad says Wrong PIN, try again and stays open, so you can try again. A wrong PIN never signs the tablet out.

If the list says Nobody is assigned to this location yet, ask a manager to add the team to this location in SSP Manager.

Lock and Switch Waiter

The top bar has two buttons for sharing the tablet. On a narrow screen they're shown as icons (a padlock, and up and down arrows).

The theme button next to them switches between Light, Dark and System.

Change your PIN

  1. Open Account Info and tap Change PIN.
  2. Enter your current PIN and tap Get a new PIN.
  3. Your new PIN is shown once. Note it, then tap I've noted it.

Where PINs come from

SSP creates each person's PIN; nobody chooses it. If you don't have a PIN yet, or you've forgotten it, ask a manager to reset it in SSP Manager (Team → Employees, ⋯ on your row, Reset PIN):

  • The new PIN is emailed to you.
  • If it can't be emailed (for example, your email address isn't verified yet), the manager sees it once on screen and gives it to you in person.

Your old PIN stops working as soon as it's reset. See Resetting a PIN.

Sign out

Signing out closes the tablet: the next person has to sign in again with a full account. To hand over to a colleague, use Switch Waiter instead.

  • From the avatar menu, choose Sign out. A confirmation asks first — This closes the tablet. A manager will need to sign in again. To hand over to another waiter, use Switch Waiter instead. — with Cancel, Switch waiter and Sign out.
  • On the lock screen, tap Sign out and close the tablet.

Signing out also signs SSP Manager and SSP Kitchen out in the same browser, since they share the sign-in. If the sign-out fails (no connection, for example), SSP Waiter says Couldn't sign out. Please try again. and stays signed in.

When a manager removes a tablet

A lost or replaced tablet can be removed in SSP Manager under Team → Waiter devices (Revoke). From then on nobody can sign in on it with a PIN, and whoever is signed in on it is signed out, including the account that set it up.

The tablet then shows one of these:

  • This tablet was removed — A manager removed it in SSP Manager (Team > Waiter devices). Sign out, then sign in again with a full account to set it up. It stays like this after a reload.
  • On the Welcome back screen: This tablet was removed in SSP Manager. Sign in with a full account to set it up again.

To use the tablet again, sign out (Sign out and close the tablet), tap Sign in with SSP and sign in with a full account. The tablet is set up again and shows as a new device in Team → Waiter devices.

Troubleshooting
