Allergies
If you have a food allergy, Scan. Splt. Pay. shows you what the restaurant says each dish contains, lets you tell the kitchen about your allergy, and warns you when something on your order contains it.
The information here is what the restaurant has entered. Kitchens share equipment, and recipes change. If your allergy is serious, tell your server as well.
What the menu tells you
Under each dish on the menu:
- Contains followed by the allergens, each with its name — for example Contains Peanut Sesame.
- No listed allergens — the restaurant says the dish contains none of the 13 priority allergens.
- Allergen information not available, please ask your server — nobody has entered this dish's allergens yet. That does not mean it is safe: ask before you order it.
- Dietary tags (such as Vegan or Halal), the spice level and, if the restaurant shows them, the calories.
Tap Allergens & details under a dish for the full picture: what it contains, what it may contain (it may have touched it in the kitchen), the dietary tags, the spice level, and what each of its options adds — for example Peanut sauce — Contains: Peanut. When you pick options, Your choices add shows what they bring to the dish.
Allergen names appear in your language. At the bottom of the menu and in your cart, the restaurant's allergen notice explains how it handles allergens.
Tell the kitchen about an allergy
At the top of the menu, and on your order, Any allergies? — Tell the kitchen about an allergy for this order.
- Tap Any allergies?
- Tap each allergen that applies.
- Add anything else the kitchen should know — For example: no sesame oil either. Optional.
- How serious is it? — Preference, Allergy or Severe allergy. Optional.
- Tap Tell the kitchen.
Your allergies then show under Allergies on this order, where you can Remove one you added by mistake, or Add another. Allergies your server recorded are shown too, marked Recorded by staff; only your server can remove those.
If you don't see Any allergies?, the restaurant takes allergies through your server: tell them.
If a dish contains your allergen
Once you have told the kitchen about an allergy, every dish on the table's order is checked against it.
In your cart, a dish that contains it says so before you add it: Contains Peanut, which you told us about. You'll be asked to confirm on your order.
On your order, Please check these dishes lists each one:
Pad Thai contains Peanut, which you told us about.
- Keep anyway — you know, and you want it anyway.
- Remove dish — takes it off the order. Only while it hasn't gone to the kitchen; after that it reads It's already with the kitchen; ask your server to change it.
Nothing stops you from sending your order: the choice is yours. Your server sees your decision.
Two more kinds of note appear in the same place, with nothing to tap:
- Spring rolls may contain Sesame. — it may have touched it in the kitchen.
- Daily special: allergens not reviewed. Please ask your server. — nobody has entered what this dish contains.
Telling the kitchen after your order was sent
You can still declare an allergy after your food has gone to the kitchen. The form warns you first: Your order is already with the kitchen. They will be alerted right away; please also tell your server. Once sent: The kitchen has been alerted. Please also tell your server.
Please do tell your server — they can stop a dish that is already being made.
If the order is closed, allergies can't be added from your phone any more: tell your server.
